Raise a Book Lover

Reading to our children is a great way to raise a book lover and it is never too early to start.

Little Edison enjoys flipping a book, looking at the illustrations and sometimes pointing out his favorite items. Although he might not understand what’s going on in the pictures or text, but he has a deep interest in them.

It isn’t uncommon to find him sitting on his own, flipping through the pages and ‘read’ on his own. Cook books, magazines and his Leapfrog LittleTouch Leappad system are his favorites. Sometimes, I will read and explain the actions to him.

Many studies have demonstrated that reading to our children have many priceless benefits. Besides promoting longer attention span and stronger bonding, they learn about colors, shapes, numbers and letters; and discover an expanding chain of knowledge.

The rule of thumb is – make it enjoyable and stress-free!

    Hi,

I agree. I read to my girl ( i started with Mr. Series actually) when she is about 8 month-old. she is able to pay attention to me for the whole story (short ones) after few months of reading.

We had read books like Corduroy, Good night moon, Let’s go for a bear hunt, lady bird series ( little red hen, three little pigs, goldilocks & the three bears).. i try to repeat on the stories i read to my missy. so that she is familiarise with the story and now i ask her to choose the story she wants me to read. she is able to do that now and we are now able to read at least 2 books per day.

After i finish my reading, she usually will ask for the book and she will flip through to see the pictures. i guess maybe the pages still linger in her head or something ?

    Just my sharing 🙂
