Saturday Snapshot: At the Pool

Our living room is facing the swimming pool, so Little Edison has been listening to all the excitement and laughter created by the kids playing in the pool area.

When this happens, he will request me to bring him for a dip into the pool – more often now after our recent staycation at Festive Hotel.

There are three swimming pools in our apartment – an adult pool, a Jacuzzi pool and a children’s wading pool. The children’s wading pool is only 0.5m deep, so he can “swim” around easily with a float and with minimal supervision from me.

Usually, there are other children playing in the wading pool. So, he can happily join them. We like to hop over to the Jacuzzi pool too because the water is warmer. The pool is unblocked, so it has direct sunlight. By late afternoon, the water in the Jacuzzi pool is so warm and nice!

Now, I’m wondering what the ideal age to start joining swimming lessons is. In fact, there are a few swimming instructors in our apartment. So, it’s quite convenient to enroll him. Maybe Year 2013 will be a good time to start. What do you think? 🙂

Wah such a coincidence … I was exploring letting Jordan resume swimming lessons soon too … this time, to learn proper swimming rather than just building water confidence. He was with Aquaducks when he was just about 10 months old for about a year before I stopped cos he was frequently coughing then. Guess it’s probably a good time to let them learn to swim after 4 years old?

      Hi Jen,
I think 5 or 6 will be a good age. Is there any swimming instructor at your condo? If yes, it will be very convenient…. At my place, there are 4 or 5 instructors. But the lessons are all in the morning because the afternoon are meant for residents only.

Yes, there’s a regular swim coach who teaches at our condo pool. Desiree learnt from him last year and was able to swim within just 2 months of coaching (previously she was taking lessons from Aquaducks then public pool for about a year but still couldn’t swim). I wanted to engage the same coach again for Jordan but he’s too packed … he recommended me his friend so we will be doing a trial for Jordan next Sat. If he’s ok with the lesson, we will go ahead and that shall be counted as lesson 1 … if not, it will be an FOC trial class for him … see how it goes. =)
