Myplayschool.net has recently started a new series on ‘A Mom’s World’ and it’s all about mothers who blog in the Singapore Mom Bloggers (SMB) group.
As an introduction, let me introduce to you the Singapore Mom Bloggers (SMB). We are a group of fun-loving and passionate mom bloggers in Singapore. We write from our hearts, and we’re inspired by our values and the people we love. Get to know us through our blogs, where we generously share our parenting experiences with our readers.
Our motto is “Every mum has a story, and every story has a heart.”
In this series that will be published every Friday from 10 Aug 2012, you’ll read about us sharing our passion for blogging. I’m truly honoured to be the first mom blogger being featured in this series.
This is part of my interview for the first series of ‘A Mom’s World’ (published on 10 Aug 2012):
Q: Tell us about your blog, Emily.
A: I started blogging since 2007 but it only went public in January 2009. Children grow up so fast and we, as a parent, have 10+ years to remember them as our children. Thus, I like to capture these cherished moments on my blog. Without him, I wouldn’t be who I am today. His presence in my life makes me want to be a better mother and a better person.
Our Little Smarties was originally started to document my son’s childhood and developmental milestones. In the early days, you wouldn’t want to read my blog because it was all about my son. When I noticed that my blog readership has started to increase, I re-positioned my blog’s theme to parenting and lifestyle of a working mother.
Now, this blog is a place for me to share the joys and challenges of motherhood, parenting advice, my son’s childhood and everything else that catches my interest – food, shopping, fashion, skincare, holidays, education, beautiful things, etc. From time to time, I also write reviews on products and services that I genuinely like.
Q: Why do you blog?
A: Through blogging, I’ve rediscovered my love for writing. Over the years, I’ve pushed myself through photography and writing to expand my vision, and to share my learning curve and experiences as I travel through the ups and downs of motherhood.
It has been a wonderful experience, and I’m happy to have met many others who are on the same path. It’s good to know that we’re not alone in this madness that we call ‘Motherhood’. We can always share and connect!
Q: What’s your secret to balancing career and family life?
A: I’m a full-time working mother in a global semiconductor company. I’m happy that I’ve chosen this path because I feel that I’m able to filter down the richness of my experiences and knowledge to my son.
In working motherhood, the days can easily fly by in a flurry of rushed meals, daily routines and chasing project deadlines. My secret is to always make sure I have my priorities in life. Family always comes first. Career will change but family is always a constant.
I set a low priority for things that don’t matter i.e. house chores, and I set a high priority for things that do matter i.e. spending quality time with my son and husband. For other tasks, if I can outsource or automate it, I will do it! It’s all about efficiency and not giving me more hassle than I need.
