Kranji Countryside Farm Tour

July 27, 2016January 24, 2019

It has been some time since our last visit to the farm, so we made an impromptu visit to Kranji Countryside farms last weekend. Turned out, we had the most amazing time even though our comfort was hugely compromised due to the sweltering hot sun.

Most of the happy memories from my childhood are about growing up in a village with nature, animals, birds and farms. I can still remember the roosters crowing, waking me up on a brand new day. We reared chickens in the backyard too. I’ve fond memories of eating fresh half-boiled eggs whenever our chicken laid eggs. Hah!

My siblings and I had no electronic games. We played with insects (yikes!). We caught grasshoppers, spiders, beetles and even flies. We would plucked the wings off the flies and laughed when they hopped around like a frog. Very disgusting, I know. If I see Edison doing this now, I will nag at him.

We also caught longkang fish, prawns and pigeons. The pigeon catching was very fun. We’d set-up a trap and sprinkled corn around the pigeons, leading up to the trap and into it. Pigeons are fast but we were still able to catch them. Haha!

I always share these memories with Edison, and he loves listening to them. It’s fascinating for a city boy like him who doesn’t have a chance to experience the “kampung life”.

We drove for half an hour to Kranji and our first stop was Hay Dairies – Singapore’s only goat farm that is opened to public.

Goat Farm

At this goat farm, milking sessions start from 9am till 11am. Hence, visitors are encouraged to come in the morning. Bring your kids there early so they will be able to view the goats as they leave their pens towards the milking parlour where farmers use high-tech equipment to express their milk.

Anytime between 9:00am to 4:00pm (closed on every Tuesday, except public holidays), you can visit the farm and have a free & easy tour around the premises. You can also purchase Hay Dairies pure and fresh goat milk from the farm. Available in two different flavours – original and chocolate, and two sizes – 200ml and 800ml.

Goat Milk

We loved that they provide free Hay Dairies cooler box for purchase of 5 x 200ml goat milk ($12.50) or 2 x 800ml ($16.00). The cooler box packed with ice can last up to 8 hours before you return home.

Edison loves the goat milk, particularly the chocolate flavor. Of course, we bought some of them home.

Next, we went to Jurong Frog Farm for some froggy fun! Edison visited the place several months ago during his school excursion, so he was quite familiar with it.

Frog Farm 2

Frog Farm

Truth be told, I have ranidaphobia. Yup! I’m absolutely terrified of frogs. The sight of frogs is enough to make me extremely uncomfortable. Urgh, I don’t eat frog meat either.

Frogs

These frogs are so big, and this was the first time I’ve seen so many frogs!

For the daring little ones, they can experience catching the frogs and tadpoles. They have to put on boots before going into the frog enclosure with a shallow pool of water. The staff will release a bag full of frogs for the kids to catch. For just $6 for 30 mins, kids can enjoy some jolly good time here.

Visitors can also purchase fresh farm produce such as fish, venison, crocodile and frog meat, as well as Hashima products here.

After the frog farm, we went to the Max Koi Farm to see the koi fishes.
