Two years ago, we brought Little Edison to Mount Faber and I took this photo.

This month, we visited the place again and I took this photo at the exact same spot. What a marked difference! My boy has grown up so much but it seems to me that it was just not too long ago when I took the first photo.

Teaching our preschooler about money can be very easy and fun. At a tender age of three, a relaxed approach is usually the most successful. We use money practically everyday; therefore there are plenty of opportunities for us to teach them about money.

My first attempt to get Little Edison familiar with money was in February this year, right after the Chinese New Year. He tore open his ang pows and I explained to him where the money comes from, what the money is for and how he should use the money. He probably didn’t understand what I was talking about but I just wanted to give him an early concept about money.

Recently, I’ve been teaching him what a dollar looks like and how to recognize the different coins. Now, he can recognize 50, 10, 5 and 2 dollar notes. Coins are a little more tricky. After a few practices, he can recognize one dollar coin, 50, 20, 10 and 5 cents by looking at the numbers and sizes.

Little Edison is also very curious about credit cards and ATMs. Every time I withdraw money from the ATM or pay for purchases via credit card, he will quietly observe what I’m doing. I explain to him that ATM is not a free money machine – Mommy and Daddy work hard to earn money for our savings and future. He nods his head and looks like he understands.

Teaching our preschooler about money isn’t difficult at all. Take the time to begin explaining money to them and I believe this will guide us to the path on raising children who will make wise financial decisions in the future.

If you’ve any creative ideas on teaching children about money, please share with me. I love to hear them.

We are regulars at the Changi Airport and we visit the place almost every week. This is simply because the airport is so nice and clean, it takes only 15 minutes drive from our home via expressway and the parking space is so huge. There is no need to wait at all; perfect for impatient people like me.

The cheap car park fee also makes the airport a popular hangout for many families. We’ve observed a significant growth in the number of local visitors at the airport, mainly families with young children.

With the festive season and school holidays, a host of activities are lined up at the airport now. From beautiful festive decorations, fabulous giveaways, song and dance performances to exciting activities for children, Changi Airport is definitely a must-visit destination! Oh, have I mentioned about the shopping offers? Visitors can redeem gifts by spending a minimum of $50 by Visa or $80 by other means.

If you’ve been to T3 recently, you’ll notice some constructions going on at the B2 Mall. It is actually a blogshop bazaar retail concept featuring three thematic retail zones, namely ladies’ fashionwear, kids’ merchandise and gadgets plus gift items from popular blogshops. Blogshops@Changi will start its operation from 4 December 2010 from 10am to 11pm.

On the festive decorations, a magical teapot is now displayed in the middle of T3’s Departure Hall. Visitors can experience hourly light-ups with exciting effects and a chance to win great prizes too. At hourly intervals (7-10pm on weekdays and 1-10pm on weekends), colorful balls will emerge from the teapot. Participants with balls of the winning color that will be announced after the balls are dispensed will win attractive prizes.

The popular Christmas Fantasy Castle is also making a return this Christmas from 4 December 2010. Simply present a receipt with any amount spent at Changi Aiport, we can bring our children to a bouncy good time at this castle. It is open from noon to 10pm daily at T3’s Departure Hall Row 11.

Are these enough to convince you to visit the Changi Airport during this festive season? If you’ve not been to this place, I highly recommend that you bring your family members and children here. I’m sure all of you will have heaps of fun.

Here is Daddy V and Little Edison at the magical teapot!

Finding a pair of shoes for boy in pre-school is relatively easy, but finding a pair that is pure white that he will like as much as you do is a little more challenging. Although it is not compulsory, the pre-school still prefers children to wear white shoes to match with their uniforms.

Last year, I bought Crocs Kids Rally in white for Little Edison. This year, I found something even better! It’s the Pediped Jake – White/Navy (flex) that he is going to wear to school next year. The design is so stylish and cute. I absolutely adore its tieless laces design as it allows the shoes to be easily put on and they are very neat too.

The shoes come with an additional 2mm insole to customize the fit so that it’s just right for each child. If the child’s feet grow, the additional insoles can be removed to extend the length of time the child can wear the shoes. We all know that children’s feet grow very fast and this additional insole is really a bonus.

Pediped footwear is recommended by Podiatrists and is said to be the closest thing to children walking barefoot, which allows the musculature of the feet to develop naturally and thus creating a healthy foot development for the children.

Pediped shoes are made from high quality leather uppers, foam insoles and cushions as well as flexible soles. The design of the shoes is also perfect for little children as they are donned with Velcro fasteners making them easy to put on and remove. Most importantly, they provide the ultimate comfort that our children’s feet deserve.

Now, I know why Pediped shoes are so popular among spreeists in SMH forum. I bought two pairs from an oversea spree recently. The price is about SGD35 – SGD40 per pair (including shipping). For superior quality shoes like this, I wouldn’t say that it’s expensive.

Little Edison certainly loves his new Pediped shoes!

Most parents will agree that jigsaw puzzle is truly an educational toy for toddlers and preschoolers. It has been around for a long time and its superiority lies in the fact that it offers a range of educational values for a minimum cost.

Besides improving hand-eye coordination, develop matching ability and logical thinking, it can helps to develop language and reading skills too. Recently, I stumbled upon a very interesting classifying puzzle set from Scholastic that I want to share with all of you.

This classifying puzzle kit contains 10 colorful, two-sided classifying puzzles that is designed to meet these key instructional goals:

- developing Vocabulary

- classifying animals and objects

- using words in speech

How I play this puzzle with Little Edison?

First of all, I show him two sets of completely assembled puzzles (1 set = 4 puzzles). Each set features a different category. I explain to him the meaning of each category and the differences between them.

Then, I disassemble the two puzzles and scramble the puzzle pieces in the middle of a table. I randomly pick up a puzzle and read out the word to him. Then, I read out the two categories again and I ask him which category does the puzzle represents. He will attach the puzzles one by one according to their categories.

Using our creativity, we can derive many other fun ways to learn and play with this classifying puzzle. Understanding how words are related in general and learning to classify the words are beneficial to preschoolers like Little Edison.

I bought this puzzle from Big Tree.
