If you are a regular visitor to Changi Airport T3, you may have seen the Kid’s Fun Ride at Carpark 3A located at Basement 2.

A huge part of this carpark has been transformed into an amusement paradise for children’s car rides with circuits of varying levels of difficulties. There is a wide range of electronic children’s cars, from mini sedan, jeeps, police cars and racing cars, to motorbikes and giant inflatable animal cars. It’s a wonderful place for toddlers, young children as well as parents.

Charges for the various rides range from $3 to $8. At a start, Little Edison chose the green sedan. There is an accelerator pedal and steering wheel, just like a real car! He needs to step on the accelerator pedal and steer the steering wheel to get it going. We taught him how to drive. He struggled with the steering wheel for a while before he managed to get his car under-control.

Then, he wanted to drive a bigger red car. This car comes with a remote-control, thus it’s slightly more expensive. We can control the moment of the car using the remote-control. This car is suitable for young toddler who is still unable to handle the accelerator pedal. Parents can also ride with their children on the giant inflatable animal cars, which cost $8 per ride.

The circuit area is nicely decorated with inflatable palm trees and cartoon animal figurines. As the area is located in the carpark, it is quite warm – although there are many big fans around. During the weekends, this place is packed with visitors. You may expect a little waiting time.

Here are some pictures of our aspiring little driver.

We had a simple Father’s Day celebration – a buffet dinner at Pearl River Palace Cantonese Restaurant with my parents-in-law and brother-in-law, Kenneth.

We’ve been to Pearl River for buffet lunch several times, and I’ve the impression that their food is wonderful. The restaurant is quite spacious, with tables well spread apart. I like the dessert and fruits section, where they are laid-out as a buffet spread so that diners can help themselves. The restaurant staffs are warm and friendly too.

However, I’ve to say that their menu for buffet dinner is sadly lacking. There wasn’t any crab in the menu. The serving size was too little. We ordered a plate of salmon sashimi and it came with only six pieces. We had to re-order for at least five times!

The other dishes were just ordinary, nothing much to rave about – except for the roast pork. It’s so crispy, juicy and not oily. I had a whole plate of it all by myself!

After the dinner, we took a family photo at the restaurant’s lobby. Our cheeky Little Edison refused to sit on the sofa with us. He went all the way to the front.

(In the photo) From left: my BIL – Kenneth, my MIL, Daddy V, ME and my FIL. Front row: Little Edison. Kenneth is Little Edison’s godfather; he is commonly addressed as Godpa Kenneth in this blog.

Even though the food wasn’t fantastic, but I certainly enjoy eating together as a family!

I’m a late comer to this driving thing. Being a newbie driver, I still signal at every lane change and turns, check my blind spots and obey all the traffic rules. However, there is still one thing that I don’t do well – that is parking! I’ll run-away at the sight of a parallel parking. Even for vertical parking, I need to make 2 or 3 adjustments before I can park my car straight and in the middle of the lot.

I used to be a very ‘public-transport’ person until I bought a car half a year ago. Public transportation is so convenient and affordable in Singapore. With the ERP, COE, road tax, insurance, parking and fuel prices, it is certainly not worth it to own a car in Singapore. Furthermore, Daddy V has a car and he will ferry us around during the weekend. I’m happy with taking a bus to work.

But the situation has changed half a year ago. Little Edison was going to start his pre-school. Daddy V works on irregular hours, and thus, he is unable to send him to school in the morning. Can I handle it if we were to take a bus to school every morning? His school starts at 8am, so we may have to leave our house as early as 7:15am! And this means all of us have to wake up at 6am.

To make the situation worst, there is no direct bus from our home to his school. We need to take two buses in order to reach his school. Not forgetting our helper – she needs to go to my parents-in-law’s house when Edison is at school. Obviously, bus is not a feasible option.

After rounds of discussions with Daddy V, we decided to buy a second car. I will ferry Little Edison to school and our helper to my parents-in-law’s house in the morning. It’s definitely more expensive with a car but there are other intangible things that we can’t put a value on, such as time-savings when we don’t need to wait for a bus, comfort level, convenience as well as safety.

…..

But now, a new problem has surfaced. You might have heard of the condo carpark crunch issue in the newspaper two months ago. Now, our condo is hit by this parking woe too. The management office issued a notice that they no longer have sufficient parking spaces to meet the demands of car-owning residents.

Each unit is allocated only one carpark lot. Residents need to apply for the second car label from the management office every three months. Now, a notice has been issued that this second car label is a privilege, not an entitlement. It will be issued on a first-come-first-serve basis until the limit is reached.

It’s nerve-wrecking. What if we couldn’t get our second car label? Where should I park my car? I foresee that this will be an on-going issue. A nightmare that will haunt us every three months. Arghhh, I hate it!

He talks so much these days. I noticed a huge difference in his speech now than few months ago. His speech is much more sophisticated and he is able to sustain conversations. His expressions can be mind-blowing.

He likes to ask questions, “Why like that?”, “Where is it?” and “How come?” He wants answers to his questions. Sometimes it can be really hard work when we are too tired or not in the mood for conversation.

He uses a variety of prepositions in his speech like, “in the car”, “on the table” etc. Sometimes, he doesn’t use the personal pronoun correctly. When he wants to brush his teeth, he’ll say “You want to brush your teeth!” It’s quite funny.

He is learning new vocabulary from people around him everyday. He listens to us when we talk. Last night, he told me “the moon disappeared”. I made him repeated the word “disappeared” for three times before I finally catch the word. Initially, it sounded something like “beat-a-beer” to me. I was so surprised that he can pronounce such a difficult word.

When he is in the mood, he can talk non-stop. Now, I hear him talking again…

“I go market. I go market buy ice-cream. I bring money”, he walks around the house, carrying a kettle with him. He looks so funny.

I really enjoy all the kiddy talks with him.

What are the funny little phrases you hear from your kiddos recently? Share them with me, I love to hear them.

For Daddy V, being a dad is the greatest blessing in his life. He always says that there is nothing better than coming home after a long day and being greeted by our dear son. He fully understands the importance of spending quality time with his son no matter how tired he is.

Traditionally, fathers don’t spend much time with their children due to lack of time and opportunity. Fathers are busy at work while mothers run the home. I grew up in such family; as a result, I’m not close to my father.

But now, I’m glad that my husband is a hands-on daddy who is good in helping out with the kid. Even from the early days, he accompanied me to the gynae without being told. He cooked and did all the house works when I was heavily pregnant. He was there for me whenever I needed him and that matters the most.

There are a few areas that Daddy V is good at; I call them his core competencies. He is our perfect driver. Amid being impatient, he is very good in driving directions. He ferries us around whenever he is available – from school to enrichment class, to the doctor, shopping malls, parks and assorted trips. Even when I’ve my own car now, he still ferries me to my office when he is free.

Secondly, he is a prudent shopper. Don’t be surprised to see him cutting out promotion coupons. His favorite section of the newspaper is supermarket advertisements. Where to get the cheapest prawn – NTUC, Shop N Save or Cold Storage? He definitely has the answer! Oh, have I mentioned about his collection of discount cards yet? Seriously, I bought him a name card holder to keep his discount cards. You can imagine how many cards he has.

Thirdly, he cooks very well too. Whenever he is inspired, he will cook up a storm. We tuck into a piping hot meal and in the comfort of our own home. It’s heavenly! He uses herbs and spices effectively in his cooking. On the downside, he is capable of turning the kitchen upside down with his kitchen experiments.

I’m really grateful to him and all his husbandly quirks. He is truly a godsend!

To all the daddies out there – Happy Father’s Day! Enjoy this special day with your loved ones this weekend.
