I’ve been thinking of Number Two. When is the best time for me to have another baby? How will my second child change my lifestyle? How’s my financial situation? These questions keep bothering me.
Anyway, the bottom line is still “Am I emotionally ready?” I do not know. But, ideally, the age gap between my first and second child should be 2-3 years.
I’m reading some articles about pre-pregnancy planning now. Hopefully, these articles can shed some light on me. I’m writing a summarize version here, hopefully it will be beneficial to you too.
Importance of pre-pregnancy planning: It is vital to ensure that the right environment is created to bring a child into this world. It is necessary for at least 2-4 months prior pregnancy.
The five main areas:
Exercise – Pregnancy is very tiring to an unexercised body. However, if we were in the habit of exercising before conception and carry it on through the pregnancy, we will have an easier labor and delivery as a result.
Health – Have a complete physical exam (especially pap smear) to make sure everything is as healthy as possible. Stay away from bad habits like smoking, overeating and caffeine.
Nutrition – It simply means supplementing with the necessary nutrients and eliminating foods that can affect health negatively. Getting adequate folic acid (at least 400 micrograms per day) and Omega 3 (essential fatty acids) in our diet at least 6 months prior our pregnancy is very important.

Weight – If we are not at our ideal weight now, then it’s time to lose some weight before we start trying to conceive. We should get ourselves into the 20-30 range to have an easier time conceiving. Click HERE to figure out your BMI.
Finance – The cost of prenatal care rises each year. Now is the time to consider how we will meet the costs of prenatal care and beyond.
