No one needs further introduction to Batam, an island famed for its food and spa facilities. Even though we’ve been to Bintan several times, this was our virgin trip to Batam. We chose to stay at Radisson Golf and Convention Center Batam because it’s one of the newest hotels (opened in Oct 2016). Radisson is also an upscale full service international hotel brand that is reliable and service driven.
Situated in the upscale Sukajadi area, Radisson Golf and Convention Center Batam has 240 guest rooms and suites. It’s connected to an 18-hole Sukajadi championship golf course, within walking distance to Kepri Shopping Mall and 5km away from the Batam Center Ferry Terminal. Other amenities include a restaurant and a bar, an outdoor and indoor pool, a fitness centre, Kid’s Club and Zoysia Spa.
Getting to Radisson Golf and Convention Center Batam
We took a ferry from HarbourFront Ferry Terminal to Batam Center Ferry Terminal. Among the various ferry operators, we chose Majestic Fast Ferry – the leading ferry operator in Batam. I understand that they are the fastest and most luxurious fleet with 14 sailings daily between HarbourFront and Batam Center.
As I walked towards the ferry, I noticed that it looked so much newer as compared to its competitor’s ferries. I love its cleanliness; the seats are also spacious and comfortable. There are toilets on the ferry. Drinking water is also provided. One thing that is worth mentioning, the staffs are very helpful in assisting the elderly and young ones to board the ferry.
Frankly, I’ve always been sea sick on small boats, but this ferry is very stable and I had NO seasickness at all. In fact, it was a very smooth sail from Singapore to Batam. Thumbs up!
We reached Batam Center Ferry Terminal in about an hour. As we walked to the arrival hall, we saw a Radisson staff holding a signage bearing Edison’s name. Imagine his excitement when he saw that, haha! Truth is, I’ve booked for a private car transfer to the hotel. This is the easiest way to get to the hotel, and it costs only IDR 100,000 (~SG$10). In the taxi, there are wet towels for us to refresh ourselves and drinking water to quench our thirst. So warm and thoughtful! =)
As the driver turned into the driveway to the hotel, the 15-storey building instantly caught my attention. It looks so grand and stood out from its surroundings. When I stepped into the lobby, I was continually impressed with its gorgeousness. High ceilings with great natural light, large ball shaped lighting with glistening swirls, and ample seats for guests. Additionally, there are also wet towels, welcome drinks and apples to welcome the guests.
We stayed in two connecting Deluxe Rooms on the 9th floor. This was also Edison’s first time staying in a connecting room by himself. Awww, my little big boy was so in awe when he stepped into his room, and proudly declared it “HIS ROOM”. LOL.
The Deluxe Room comes with a spacious work desk, complimentary wi-fi, 42″ LED TV with cable and satellite channels (Edison just screamed at all the cartoon channels!), complimentary bottled water, coffee and tea, in-room safe deposit box, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, as well as a minibar fully equipped with snacks and drinks.
The room is very NEW, spacious and comfortable, tastefully designed in warm earthy tones and sleek wood finishes. We love the balcony that overlooks the swimming pool and golf course. As for me, I was delighted with its bathroom with a large open vanity area with separated shower (with rain shower) and toilet.
Next, I was also impressed with the bath amenities from Rituals. This brand is known worldwide as one of the most famous body care brands with its success derived from quality of ingredients chosen. The bath amenities are individually scented in 25ml travel size bottles. There’s the Sweet Orange and Cedar shower gel, Deep Sea Minerals and Japanese Mint Shampoo, Cherry Blossom and Rice Milk Conditioner, and a White Lotus and Yi Yi Ren Body Lotion. I couldn’t help but asked for an extra set to add to my collections. 😆
There are also welcome fruit basket and snacks in our rooms. What a GREAT start to our 3D2N fun getaway to Batam! =)
Facilities & Services
Golfing at Padang Golf Sukajadi course is definitely the BEST thing to do while staying at Radisson Golf and Convention Center Batam. From IDR 2,000,000 nett per person (~SG$200), you can enjoy a round of 18 holes golf with one-night accommodation on a twin-sharing basis, buffet breakfast, sharing golf buggy, standard golf insurance, a personal caddy, unlimited use of hotel’s facilities, and IDR 150,000 F&B voucher.
Optional transfers: Singapore – Batam Center – Singapore at IDR 450,000 nett per person (~SG$45), and Batam Center – Hotel – Batam Center at IDR 200,000 nett per person (~SG$20).
For beginners like us, we’re more than happy to practise our swings at the driving range, a short distance away from the hotel. We got there easily on a buggy.
Besides golf, there are two large swimming pools at the hotel – an indoor pool at the Business Class Lounge on 10th floor and an outdoor infinity pool that overlooks the golf course. I’d say the best time to take a dip in the outdoor pool is late afternoon (not too hot) and relax till sunset.
The Business Class Lounge is located on the 10th floor with very spacious lounge area with floor to ceiling glass windows where guests can enjoy a beautiful sunset view while enjoying amenities such as complimentary breakfast, complimentary drinks each evening, access to the indoor pool as well as a Hotel Library and free flow of tea, coffee or soft drinks.
There was never a dull moment during our stay. In fact, there are plenty of activities until I missed out my spa session at Zoynia Spa *cry*. Zoysia Spa offers a selection of Body Massage, Ayurvedic Treatments, Spa packages and Beauty services. A 60-minute aromatherapy body massage is priced at just IDR 400,000++! Or enjoy a 210-minute Romeo and Juliet couple package that include Relaxing Fragrant Flower Bath, Swedish Massage, body scrub and facial at IDR 1,500,000++.
Hotel in-house activities include Segway, Hoverboard, Smart Skate Board and Archery. These activities are available daily, but I’d advise you to book in advance. You can also try-out the off-site activities such as ATV (all-terrain vehicle), scuba diving, kayaking, tennis and softgun.
The “Tumble in the Jungle” Kids’ Club is one the BEST things here. It’s HUGE and filled with toys, books, card and board games, colouring materials, TV with cartoon channels, and kid’s pool with inflatable toys. On Saturdays, there’s also animal show where kids can take pictures with them – iguanas, sugar glider (looks like a squirrel, it’s SUPER cute!), and even snakes (if you dare! 😯 )! There’s also other activities such as face-painting.
If you wish to discover more about Batam, the hotel provides complimentary shuttle service that connects to major shopping malls (BCS Mall, Nagoya Hill Mall), ferry terminal and airport. Additionally, there’s also complimentary buggy service to the nearby Kepri Mall (if you’re too lazy to walk).
The main restaurant in the hotel is Bite Restaurant that offers all-day international cuisine dining. Here’s also where guests enjoy a buffet spread for breakfast.
The complimentary buffet breakfast offers a wide selection of food from local delights such as nasi lemak, mee goreng, curry vegetables, to western food, cereal, pancake, French toast, assorted pastries, as well as an egg station and toast section. The food variety is definitely satisfying.
Every Saturday, you can enjoy a sumptuous spread of international and local dishes from 6.30pm till 10pm. Kids will love the delicious chocolate corner. Price starts from IDR 250,000 that include all-you-can-eat buffet in Bite Restaurant, 15% discount on at Zoysia Spa, and pool access in the afternoon (if you’re not staying in the hotel). Simply top-up IDR 150,000++ to enjoy free flow of beer. Children below six years old are complimentary, while children age between six and 12 will enjoy a 50% discount. I’d highly recommend it!
We also love the ala-carte lunch selections!
Radisson Golf and Convention Center Batam brings together luxe comfort and family-friendly fun. It’s an excellent hotel with beautiful golf courses, friendly staffs, and delicious food. It also boosts a multitude of activities for guests of all ages. From kid-friendly activities to water sports, land activities, massages and sight-seeing, there’s never a dull moment at Radisson. You’ll be spoilt, for sure!
From SG$207 average rate per night, you can enjoy the Time for Family Getaway package that includes:
- Two complimentary ferry tickets
- International buffet breakfast at Bite Restaurant
- Two 30-minute Escape Remedy Massages at Zoysia Spa (once per stay)
- 15% off Weekend Buffet Dinner
- Complimentary bucket of 100 golf balls
- Chauffeur service to/from the Batam Center ferry terminal
For a relaxing and kid-friendly Batam getaway, I’d highly recommend Radisson Golf and Convention Center Batam. From eating our heart out to catching the stunning Batam sunset and enjoying all the awesome activities, we truly enjoyed every moment of our stay at Radisson that was nothing short of comfortable and welcoming. We’ll certainly be back again!
