I am unabashedly a fan of beach resort. Today, I want to share with you a luxurious 5-star beachfront resort that has been at the top of my travel bucket list for some time, and one day I’d love to cross it off my list. That’s Montigo Resorts, Nongsa – the upscale and award-winning Batam resort famed for its Mediterranean stylings and all-white Santorini vibes.
Recently, Montigo Resorts launched its first-ever ferry service – Montigo Ferry, offering guests the luxury of travelling to and from the resort in private and comfortable ease. Managed and owned entirely by the resort, the 85-seater ferry is operated by Batam Fast. It will shuttle between Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal in Singapore and Nongsapura Ferry Terminal in Batam. Montigo Resorts guests will enjoy extra perks such as priority boarding and express immigration clearance at Nongsapura Ferry Terminal.
Getting to Montigo Resorts
The easiest and most comfortable way to travel to the resort is via Montigo Ferry (yup, the new one!). It provides comfortable seats with the convenience of priority boarding, concierge service for luggage assistance, and express immigration clearance at Nongsapura Ferry Terminal.
You’d LOVE the convenience of travelling to the resort with no luggage on-hand and no squeezing on public ferries! 😆 The 45-minute ferry ride was easy peasy, and the resort is just 5-minute drive from Nongsa (free shuttle service provided by the resort).
Alternatively, you can also travel by Batam Fast. Price wise, Montigo Ferry is slightly higher. If you’re travelling with the elderly or young kids, I find that it’s worth paying for the convenience and comfort.
On the other hand, the advantage of taking Batam Fast is that it has more departure timings. Now, Montigo Ferry only offers one departure timing on weekday and I hope they will increase it in future.
We took the 1:40pm ferry and arrived at Nongsa at approximately 1:30pm – Batam is one hour behind Singapore. As we walked to the immigration, we saw a Montigo Resorts booth just in front of it. We handed our passports to the staff and were given a “special clearance pass”. The staff assisted to get our passports stamped, so we just walked out without having to queue at the immigration counters. How easy, hahah! 😉
Once we walked out to the arrival hall, we saw another Montigo Resorts booth and staffs directing us to the Montigo Resorts shuttle service (already waiting for us). We arrived at the resort at about 2:00pm. The seamless transition from Singapore to Montigo Resorts, Nongsa via Montigo Ferry is definitely a great start to our vacation.
As we arrived, we were greeted by friendly staffs with welcome drinks and cold towel. Edison was thrilled to see Tilo, the adorable resort mascot. And here’s his first photo in this resort!
The resort staff came to assist us in our check-in, and all we had to do was to sit back and enjoy our drink!
Montigo Resorts, Nongsa offers luxury villa accommodation with private sea-facing infinity pool (yes, your very own infinity pool!), sky terrace, open-air master bathroom, al fresco dining terrace and kitchenette. There are five major categories of room types – Spa Villa, Sea Front Villa, Hilltop Villa, Hillside Villa, and Garden Villa (only 1 unit with a beautiful lawn instead of private pool). Perfect for a romantic getaway or a fun family get-together, these villas combine all the right ingredients for a luxury vacation in Batam.
The villa (approximately 306 sqm) has three levels:
- Level One: Living room, dining area, powder room and private infinity pool.
- Level Two: Bedrooms and bathrooms.
- Level Three: Roof Terrace
We stayed in a Deluxe Two-Bedroom Villa. The moment we stepped in, we were SO impressed by its size.
Level One: In the living room, there’s an LCD TV with DVD player and satellite reception, as well as sofa that sits five comfortably. The open kitchen comes with a microwave oven, induction cooker, coffee and tea-making facilities, and a minibar with a selection of beverages. There’s a bathroom too – convenient for guests to take a shower after a swim without having to walk up to level two.
The most interesting part is the living room and kitchen that merged into a sea-facing outdoor patio and private infinity pool. Ooh la la! Gazing out of the pool from the living room feels so surreal. It’s truly a luxury to enjoy a private pool in your villa. To top it all off, the view from the pool is simply stunning.
Level Two: On the middle floor, two big bedrooms with luxuriously soft & fluffy beds and gorgeous en-suite bathrooms also offer amazing sea views. The master bedroom suite has a king-sized canopy bed, LCD TV and sofa. I love the full-length glass window that allows plenty of natural light into the room.
The en-suite bathroom comes with a bath tub, a separate rain shower and toilet. Seriously, the bath tub is bigger than anything I’ve ever seen. It could fit even a baby elephant if it wanted to. 😆
The common bedroom is slightly smaller and it comes with two single beds. In this room, there’s also a TV and en suite bathroom (but without the bath tub). So, there are total 3 bathrooms in this villa.
Level Three: Up at the top, the beautiful Santorini-inspired roof terrace with unobstructed views of the sea and oodles of space is just SO perfect for sunset cocktails and even BBQ!
This was the view we woke up to every morning – endless crystal blue water that disappeared into the sky. Oh, it’s hard to imagine life being any more perfect than this! 😀
Watching the sun set from the comfort of your rooftop is equally amazing too. OMG, how I wish time could come to a standstill so that our stay at this luxury resort could last a little longer.
Around the Resort
Now, let us take you on a pictorial walkthrough around this beautiful resort using our new 7-14mm ultra wide-angle lens .
This is the main swimming pool (there are many, many pools in this resort!). It is SO beautiful. Edison was so excited that he wanted to jump right into it! But wait, don’t we have our own private pool in our villa? Hahah! We will make time for both pools, for sure.
This is Tadd’s Restaurant, the all-day dining restaurant (more about the food in my next post). It’s surrounded by lush greenery and offers spectacular views of the sea. It’s located right next to the main swimming pool.
This is TIIGO Beach Club, just a short stroll away from Tadd’s Restaurant. It also overlooks the sea and has a gorgeous swimming pool (for guests 16 years and above only). Personally, this is the pool that I love most.
The third restaurant in this resort is Pantai Restaurant, located near the reception. I love its unique kelong-style and dining ambience. It has both indoor and outdoor seating.
Next comes the kids’ paradise, haha! This is Tilo Kids Club that is housed within a 2-storey hut constructed entirely with bamboo – truly unique! There’s a wading pool right in front of it. On the first level, there are slides, a large ball pit, activity and game rooms with Wii and XBox Kinect, TV rooms, reading rooms as well as shower area. On the second level, there’s an open area with lots of toys, books, board games and colourful comfy cushions.
Parents, you’ll be delighted to know that the kids club is fully-supervised with daily programs for kids of all ages. You can take a break from your parenting duties to enjoy a pampering spa session at Montigo Spa (more on the spa in my next post).
And here’s Montigo Cabin, let’s go shopping! You can find resort wear, spa gifts, accessories and mementos, unique handicraft and signature Montigo Resorts products (including Kuih Lapis) here.
We noticed that the resort is rather hilly, thus it’s common to be chauffeured around in a buggy. This is extra bonus point from Edison as he’s always thrilled to ride on a buggy. The resort provides 24-hour buggy service, nonetheless, walking from one place to another is not that far too.
More to come on the activities and food in this resort, read Part 2 here.
