Montigo Resorts, Nongsa: A Magical Haven of Food and Fun in Batam

In my previous post, I’ve shared a general overview of the beautiful Montigo Resorts and the two-bedroom villa that we stayed. If you’ve missed it, you can read it HERE. Today, I’ll share more about the food and activities in this resort.  😀

Dining Establishments

There are 5 dining options in the resort, each serving different cuisines to cater to a variety of taste. This is Tadd’s Restaurant – an all-day dining restaurant offering ala-carte local, Asian and Western delights for a casual lunch, relaxing dinner, as well as a quick snack while the kids play at the neighbouring Tilo Kids Club.

The buffet breakfast (included in the room rate) is served at Tadd’s Restaurant too. Personally, I love the relaxed semi al-fresco poolside setting in this restaurant. Every morning, I looked forward to the buffet breakfast with a variety of live cooking stations such as eggs, nasi kuning, chicken soup, prata and fried noodles. Don’t miss the fresh bakery as well as Nongsa noodles! The breakfast certainly gave me a reason to smile and started my day with many happy thoughts.

As a mom, I was also delighted to see a kids’ food corner. The section is built lower than elsewhere in the restaurant so that young children can reach the food items easily. That way, parents can enjoy their breakfast and eat in peace too.  😆

One of my favourite dishes is Ayam Panggang Berempah (Spicy Grilled Chicken). It comes with an oven-roasted spring chicken that is SO flavourful, sautéed long beans, steamed jasmine rice, prawn crackers and spicy sambal. If you’re here, I highly recommend that you give this a try. Personally, I find that the food here is reasonably-priced too.

Seafood Chips
Seafood and Chips | herb breaded red snapper, squid and prawns, french fries, spicy aioli sauce
Traditional Gado-Gado
Traditional Gado-Gado Salad – my favourite appetizer!

We also had our lunch at TIIGO beach club. Located just a short walk from Tadd’s Restaurant, TIIGO is cool across every detail. You can choose to unwind in the comfort of shaded outdoor loungers, or on the cabana beds in the sun. The drinks menu is extensive with over 50 tempting cocktails and signature spirits to choose from, served alongside a selection of delectable bar bites.

Next, this is the stunning view of the pool. Nothing beats having an iced cold beer while enjoying the beautiful pool that overlooks the sea.

Among all the restaurants, our top favourite is Pantai Restaurant. I love its unique kelong-style and dining ambience with indoor and outdoor seating. It serves a mix of Indonesian and Singaporean favourites as well as fresh seafood. One thing that is worth mentioning, I noticed mosquito coils at the outdoor seating area. The resort’s service and attention to details is truly fantastic.

We loved to dine outdoor because the cool sea breeze makes it even more relaxing. Pretty much everything we had was delicious, but special mention has to be made for this perfectly steamed garoupa with tomato, pineapple, eggplant in “assam curry style”. Loved it to bits!

Last but not least, the resort also offers In-Villa Dining and Private Dining. If you wish to surprise your loved one with an intimate candle lit dinner by the beach, a camp-fire birthday party for your kids, a private pool or a rooftop terrace dinner, the resort can make the arrangement for you.

Montigo Resorts is an amazingly kid-friendly resort, and it is certainly true that Edison had more fun than we did. So, what did we do at the resort?  😎

1. A walk at the jetty any time of the day

Montigo Resorts Nongsa

This jetty is one of the main attractions in this resort, it’s very beautiful. A leisure walk along the jetty while enjoying the sea view is so enjoyable.

2. Swim to your heart’s content

On top of the private pool in each villa, there are also 3 main swimming pools in the resort. The main pool (opened to all guests) is located next to Tadd’s Restaurant, and it’s surrounded by lush greenery. You can rent a fancy float and enjoy a splashing good time here.

The second pool (opened to guests above 16 years old only) is located in front of TIIGO Beach Club. IMO, this pool is the most beautiful as it overlooks the sea with plenty of loungers and cabanas.

The third one is a wading pool at Tilo Kids Club.

3. Oodles of FUN at Tilo Kids Club

Having a Kids Club is an added bonus. It was filled with all kinds of super fun activities and fully-supervised with daily programs for kids of all ages. Additionally, the staffs were amazing with kids too.

Tilo Kids Club

Tilo Kids Club is housed within a 2-storey hut constructed entirely with bamboo. There’s a wading pool right in front of it. On the first level, there are slides, a large ball pit, activity and game rooms with Wii and XBox Kinect, TV rooms, reading rooms as well as shower area. On the second level, there’s a huge open area with lots of toys, books, board games and colourful comfy cushions.

4. Pamper ourselves with spa treatment at Montigo Spa

Montigo Spa

The Spa at Montigo Resorts has a wonderfully-authentic Indonesian vibe with bamboo paths and charming spa villas. Each spa villa has a balcony that is facing the sea – this is where you’ll have your foot scrub and wash before the start of your treatment, as well as a shower room. The Spa’s affordable menu offers a series of lovely treatments from massages and wraps to facials and manicures.

The moment we arrived, we were served refreshing welcome drinks and a choice of massaging oils for our treatment. V went ahead with the 60-minute Indonesian Massage which combines acupressure, reflexology and aromatherapy using one of the four signature Montigo oil blends. Even though V isn’t a huge fan of massages, he truly enjoyed his session. He commented that the relaxing sound of ocean waves is the perfect complement to his massage.

Edison, on the other hand, was SO excited to try out his first spa treatment. I chose a 30-minute mini facial and 30-minute body massage for him. He was offered 3 massage creams to choose from – strawberry, chocolate and relaxing lavender. For the facial, he had face mask and cucumbers on his eyes.

Montigo Resorts

No words can describe how HAPPY he was with his first spa treatment. He kept praising that his face was SO smooth after the facial. Hahah, my silly boy. Not many resorts offer kids’ spa, thus I was so glad to see a wide range of spa treatments for kids here. That way, they won’t feel left out when parents go for their treatments.

As for me, I’d prefer to have a facial treatment (can’t even remember when was the last time I had it). I opt for the 60-minute Babor Vita Balance Performance Facial priced at IDR 650,000++ which is approx. S$77 after taxes. It was 60 minutes of pure bliss and tranquillity for all of us!

5. Join a cooking class

Initially, we booked a fishing trip and banana boat. However, due to weather conditions, we were unable to do so. Thus, we tried something new, that’s joining the cooking class. Turned out, it was quite exciting – cooking and learning as a family for the first time.

The class was conducted at TIIGO Beach Club. We were taught how to cook Gado-Gado, Gangan Fish Fillet and Baked Fish wrapped in Banana Leaf.

6. Other activities

Water sports center near the jetty

The resort offers a wide range of activities for guests of all ages. For the youngsters, they can gear up for some action with wake boarding, jet skiing, knee boarding, kayaking, snorkelling or banana boat rides with certified instructors at hand.

For families, they can go for a fishing trip, mangrove tour, batik painting, paintball, etc. For couples, they can also try out the kampong bike tour, vintage car tour, or tee off at one of the 18-hole golf courses in the vicinity. Truly, there’s never a dull moment during our stay at the resort.

My Verdict

Montigo Resorts Nongsa

Well, that brings us to the end of our Montigo Resorts experience. After spending 3 days in paradise, all I can say is that Montigo Resorts has been truly spectacular in every way. It’s one of those places we’ll never ever forget.  🙂

The level of service is excellent. Everywhere we go, we were greeted with smiles. Food wise, we certainly enjoyed all our meals at the resort that is inspired by a diversity of local flavours. The villa is also equipped with electric mosquito repellent and lotions. There’s never a worry about mosquito during our stay.

Montigo Resorts Nongsa

Price wise, it may be higher than other resorts in Batam. However, being a 5-star resort and judging from the size of its villas, I honestly feel that it’s reasonably-priced. Perhaps, that’s the reason why Montigo Resorts is ranked #2 Best Value of 103 hotels in Batam on Trip Advisor.

The only improvement I hope to see in this resort is the maintenance. As the villas are white, it’s truly challenging to keep them all white and clean. Moreover, the resort is 5 years old now, some signs of aging are inevitable. In general, the resort is still well-maintained, clean and beautiful.

All in all, Montigo Resorts is a perfect place for a relaxing and luxurious getaway from Singapore. You’ll enjoy the comfort of a spacious villa with private pool that’s perfect for families. Not forgetting, there are many family-friendly activities too! From children to grandparents, there is definitely something for everyone.  😀

Do we need to book the activities in advance? Or can just go and book on the spot?

Emily February 24, 2019 at 12:10 PM

Hi Sharon,
Some activities require pre-booking for example the cooking session, tours and water sports. I’d advise you to book once you settle down on your first day. Others like archery, airsoft guns, archery, batik painting and Kids Club activities, you can just walk-in and book on the spot. 🙂
