Sunday Family Lunch at Seasonal Tastes The Westin Singapore: Best Family Brunch!

Seasonal Tastes is the main dining restaurant at The Westin Hotel Singapore. Located on the 32nd floor and surrounded by full-height glass windows, it offers a magnificent view of Singapore’s city skyline and the South China Sea. What’s more amazing is their Sunday Family Lunch, which is one of my favourite family feastings.

Seasonal Tastes has been offering its Sunday Family Lunch since Apr 2017. I got to know this restaurant last year during my company’s departmental lunch. Since then, I’ve been patronizing this wonderful restaurant. Family feasting just got better with this kid-friendly Sunday Family Lunch. I’ll tell you why. 😀

District 10 Bar & Restaurant at UE Square – Family-Friendly Restaurant

Dining is a relaxed affair at District 10 as the restaurant is very child-friendly, complete with bouncy castle and spacious play area that children can enjoy while adults enjoy the food. It’s also perfect for families and friends to gather for a relaxing weekend brunch or lunch.

District 10 Bar & Restaurant is located at UE Square. It’s pretty unique because it houses a main dining hall, private dining room, al fresco dining and al fresco bar – all within their premises that guarantees a cozy and relaxed ambience for all the diners.

District10-13

Last weekend, we went to try out their brunch menu and here’s what we ordered.

District 10-1

I had Florentine Style Eggs Benedict (poached eggs on toasted brioche bread, sautéed spinach with pesto hollandaise sauce & pine nuts, $16++). This is a new item on their brunch menu which is also their signature dish specially created by Chef Luca Pezzera. The eggs are nicely runny while the brioche bread is so soft and moist. I highly recommend it!

District 10-5

V ordered the Black Angus Striploin (served with fried eggs, $28++). The accuracy for medium rare was good, and it was a close complete of a 7oz steak.

District 10-2

Edison loves prawns, so we got him a Linguine Aglio Olio with Tiger Prawns ($22++). He totally enjoyed the generous servings of succulent tiger prawn.

District 10-3

We also tried the Wholemeal Tortilla Wrap (served with Mexican style chicken breast, roasted capsicum, scrambled eggs & crispy iceberg lettuce, $16++). It’s a perfect choice for a healthier and lighter meal to start the weekend.

District 10-6

For the drinks, we ordered Anti-Oxidant (peach, green apple, mango & strawberry, $13++), Anti-Aging (dragon fruit & pineapple, $13++), and Freshly Squeezed Carrot & Apple Juice ($12++).

No meal is complete without some great dessert. No matter how full we’re, we always save some room for desserts. The desserts at District 10 are awesomely delicious. We ordered a Belgian Waffle (served with berries, ricotta cheese, wild honey & roasted walnut, $14++), Traditional Italian Tiramisu ($12++), and Warm Lava Chocolate Cake & Vanilla Ice-cream ($14++).

District10-15

District10-11

District10-10

I actually LOVE all of them! These desserts taste as good as they look – definitely worth a try!

District 10-8

To top it off, the laid-back and family-friendly space made us feel right at home. Edison was completely captivated by the bouncy castle. The moment his order was taken, he zoomed right into the bouncy castle located on the outdoor patio (available from 11:30am – 4:30pm on weekends and public holidays).

District 10-7

District 10-9

There is also a play area complete with ride-on cars, colouring books, and pencils for the younger kids.

District 10 is also a perfect choice for children’s parties, where 240sqm play area is lined with play pads to ensure the safety of the kids while providing plenty of room for them to run freely and explore their surroundings.

District 10-16

District 10’s special kids menu is uniquely printed on a colouring paper (I almost missed this out!). It offers delicious options such as Roasted Mini Chipolata with Fried Eggs and Fries ($9++), Black Angus Mini Burger with Fries ($9++), and Fish Fritters with Sautéed Vegetables ($9++).

Would I return again? Certainly YES! We like everything about District 10, from their food to their set-up, ambience, and location. I’ll always look forward to spending a relaxing Sunday morning filled with great food and great fun at District 10. You should check out this place too!

8 Restaurants in Singapore where Kids Eat for Free

Restaurants Kids Eat Free

Despite having such tiny stomachs, kids’ meals can sometimes be expensive – especially if you have a small eater who is notoriously fussy and never clear a plate. As a matter of fact, “Kids Eat Free” is often music to the ears of parents.

There aren’t a lot of restaurants offering free meals for kids nowadays. In fact, the numbers are getting a lot lesser now than few years ago. I don’t understand why. If I’m a restaurant owner, I’ll definitely offer “Kids Eat Free” because it’s the best promotion to attract families and show appreciation for my business. After all, kids deserve to be happy and have yummy free meals to eat.

The good news is – we’ve scoped out the few remaining restaurants in Singapore that offer free meals for kids, from pizza and burgers to a full blown lunch buffet. So, check out this list now …

8 Restaurants in Singapore where Kids Eat for Free

1. Sunday Garden Party at Atmosphere by the sea

Rasa1

This is a fun-filled dining package offered by Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa for families to enjoy Sundays at the resort. It includes a seafood buffet spread with a children’s buffet corner, children’s activities, and complimentary access to the resort’s swimming pool, children’s slides and splash pad.

The buffer is priced at $138++ per adult. One child aged 11 years or below can dine for free with every paying adult. Available every Sunday from 12pm to 3pm (buffet lunch). This offer is available from 8 Apr 2015 through 31 Dec 2015. Read our review HERE.

2. Brussels Sprouts

Brussels Sprouts

From 12pm to 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays, kids (10 years and below) can choose either Fish Sticks or Sausages when you order from the Big Eat or Main-sized Moules/Palourdes Frites. One free kid’s meal per paying adult. This promotion is not applicable on the eve of Public Holidays and Public Holidays. Other black-out dates may apply.

All their three outlets at Big Splash, Robertson Quay and Sentosa Cove have ample seatings. We’ve been to the Big Splash and Sentosa Cove outlets – both of them have outdoor play areas to keep the kids happy and active. The food is reasonably-priced too. Read our review HERE.

3. The Bank Bar + Bistro

Kids eat free all weekend (from 9am-6pm). Purchase one main course and get a kids’ entrée for free. There’s also a playroom to keep the little ones entertained while the parents enjoy their meals. We haven’t been to this restaurant yet, but we will surely check it out someday.

4. Starz Restaurant

I like this colourful and fun restaurant located at the lobby of Hard Rock Hotel. During my last visit, I saw a small section of the restaurant being decorated for a party or event, the beautiful set-up really wowed me.

Up to 2 kids aged 4 to 12 years old dine free with every 2 paying adults. Not valid on eve of and public holiday.

5. Morganfields

This restaurant has two outlets at The Star Vista and Suntec City. We tried the outlet at The Star Vista last year, and I must say that their signature dish – Sticky Bones – IS REALLY YUMMY! Juicy and tender, it’s certainly one of the best rib restaurants in Singapore.

Kids below 8 years old or 120cm in height get a free kids’ meal for every paying adult main meal. Maximum of 2 kids’ meal to be redeemed per table. Available on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. There are also fun activities on the menu to keep the kids occupied.

6. Pizza Hut

I would say Pizza Hut is the best place to bring your kids for a free lunch after school. Kids below 10 years old eat free on weekdays. Order any selected a la carte main or pizza set meal and get a kids’ meal for free. Not valid on public holidays and eve of public holidays. With so many outlets around the island, there’s surely one near you.

7. Smokey’s BBQ

I haven’t been to this restaurant before, but now I think I really should because I love BBQ and ribs. This restaurant has two outlets at Joo Chiat Place and Sunset Lane.

You’ll get one kids’ meal free with any purchase of an adult main course during brunch hours from 11am to 3pm. Valid for kids 10 years old and below. Cannot be combined with any other discounts or offers.

8. Seoul Garden

This is one of my Hubby’s favourite restaurants, although I’m not quite a fan of it. Every Sunday, kids dine for FREE with every paying adult. Applicable for kids below 1.3m.

Modesto’s Pizzeria at VivoCity: Review & Giveaway

Bon Giorno! On this lovely Sunday morning, I’m going to bring you to a beautiful restaurant that is perfect for a romantic dinner for two, or a special dinner with family, or even gathering with friends.

That is Modesto’s Pizzeria at VivoCity.

M5

A little bit of introduction, Modesto’s Pizzeria has been in Singapore for over a decade and their flagship outlet is located along Singapore’s busiest shopping belt at Orchard. The Italian restaurant chain has since expanded to four outlets in Singapore at Orchard, Elizabeth, Katong and VivoCity.

Modesto’s Pizzeria at VivoCity

M3

Modesto’s Pizzeria at VivoCity Shopping Centre has recently been relocated from Level 1 to Level 3. Its current location at the roof top of VivoCity has many advantages. Firstly, there is a beautiful view from the sky park and plenty of space for kids to roam around (if you’re seated outdoor). Secondly, the location is less crowded as compared to inside of the shopping centre.

If you’re wondering if this is a family-friendly restaurant, then the answer is YES! There are kid’s menu, high chairs and colouring sheets (colours are provided too) to keep the kids comfortable and entertained in the restaurant.

We went for a dinner on Saturday night. It was still drizzling, so we chose to sit indoor on the upper deck. The indoor dining area is separated into two decks. I would say that the upper deck is more suitable for families. The lower deck has high tables and bar stools, which might be difficult for children.

M4

M8

M6

This is my first visit to Modesto’s and I was intrigued by the ambience of this outlet. The interior lightning is moderately dim, which makes me feel so nice and cosy. The Christmas decorations are up in the restaurant, thus giving us a festive feeling that enhances our overall dining experience.

M7

M1

There is a junior’s set menu at $12.90++ that comprises a drink, a choice of pasta or mini pizza and a dessert.

M11
(Sorry that the chicken wings looked a bit dark in this picture due to the dim lightning)

M10
Gamberetti Fritti

For the appetizers, we ordered the Alette Di Pollo ($17) – that’s my all-time favourite, deep-fried chicken wings and drumlets. They are so crispy and flavourful! We also ordered the Gamberetti Fritti ($16) – marinated prawns wrapped in the pastry and deep-friend. Both appetizers come with yummy home-made chilli sauce and tartar sauce.

M9
Zuppeta Pesce

For the soup, we ordered the Zuppeta Pesce ($18) – an assortment of fresh prawns, squids, clams and mussels, simmered in fresh tomato sauce. It’s not spicy, so the kids can totally enjoy this delicious fresh seafood and soup.

M12
Misto Carne

For the main course, the traditional wood-fired pizza is certainly not to be missed. We ordered a regular-sized (12-inch) Misto Carne – pizza with marinated chicken, spicy pork salami, chicken sausages and cooked pork ham.

The serving is quite huge, good for 2-3 pax. Little Edison was totally in-love with the thin-crust pizza! The only pizza that he has eaten before is at Pizza Hut, so he was raving for the thin-crust pizza so much because it is amazingly delicious!

The crust is firm and crispy, and it has a delicious combination of toppings: chicken, pork, sausages and ham. That’s what I like about it.

M13
Linguine Modesto’s

For the pasta, we ordered the Linguine Modesto’s ($29) under the Modesto’s Special Pasta category. It is flat spaghetti with fresh prawns, squid, clams, mussels, whole crab, anchovies, capers, dried chilli, garlic, white wine and fresh tomato sauce, cooked in traditional Italian Cartoccio style.

It was really ‘love at first mouthful’ – if such term do exists! Haha!

This pasta is really delicious and I highly recommend it. Its serving size is huge and good for twin-sharing too.

After a sumptuous dinner, we unwind with refreshing fruit juices and yummy strawberry milkshake for Little Edison. We had to skip the dessert because our tummies are already 150% full! You can judge from the amount of food that we ordered.

All in all, we really enjoyed our dinner at Modesto’s VivoCity. It’s been so long since I last had such a romantic dinner with V (and with Little Edison in-tow). I’ve to make a special mention for the excellent service rendered to us by the restaurant staffs.

After the dinner, V said “We should come more often, dear!” And I replied, “That’s for sure!”

If you’re thinking of giving this restaurant a try, here’s a good news for you. I have two $50 Modesto’s dining vouchers to giveaway to two readers.

Hop over to Our Little Smarties Facebook Page for details on this giveaway. Good luck!

“Super Sweet 17” New Menu from nydc

Nydc, the well-loved restaurant which has continually thrills Singapore diners with its iconic mudpies and cheesecakes since 1995, is celebrating its 17th birthday this year by launching more than 20 new food items on its menu.

I’ve never been to nydc before, even though I’ve heard a lot of good reviews about them. So, when we were invited to sample their wholesome new dishes last weekend, I was very curious to try them out.

nydc

We went to the new nydc’s outlet in Wheelock Place. My first impression of the restaurant was that it’s small but cosy and nicely decorated with Halloween stuffs like webs, spiders, pumpkins and pointy hats. Those fake spiders were keeping our boy really busy that night. I’m just glad he didn’t insist to bring them home.

We’re thankful that a table has been reserved for us, because when we arrived at the restaurant, it was packed full of people. It’s indeed very popular. We browsed through the new menu, as well as the current one.

Edison

We ordered two entrees. The Summer Harvest ($12.80) is a garden salad served with strawberries, blueberries and oranges. It’s attractively healthy and tasty! V also ordered the Super Sampler ($23.80) – a platter good for twin-sharing with yummy chicken wings, cheesy baked-potatoes and chips.

Garden Salad

Super Sampler

We also ordered one entrée from the new menu, which is the Drunken Masta ($18.80) with 2 shots of tequilas. I must say that this pasta-dish spiked with tequila is my favourite! The most interesting thing about this dish is that you can customize your drunken master level with one to three shots of tequilas. Interesting, isn’t it?

Drunken Masta

I chose the medium level with two shots, and the sauce is just nice for me. The tiger prawns were crunchy and the clams were lovely, you just have to try this! It’s served with two slices of herb-buttered toast, which is a perfect companion for the sauce.

For our first main course, I ordered the Piggy Back ($17.80), which is the marinated pork ribs served with seasonal vegetables and golden wedges. Our boy, who is a big fan of fish and chips, ordered the Good ol’ Fish and Chips ($15.80).

Piggy Back

Fish & chips

It was two huge slabs of hand-battered pacific dory served golden brown, accompanied with sides of fries, salad and tartar dip. Our boy had one huge slab all by himself!

We also get to try the drinks from their new menu – Nutty Cookie Cruncher ($7.80) and Shake Affogato Shake ($9.80), both served with shots of Bailey’s. These milkshakes were pretty thick and sweet (but not too sweet). Personally, I prefer the Shake Affogato Shake for its slightly bitter espresso taste.

Drinks

We ordered a glass of Berry Freezy ($6.80), a refreshing blend of fresh-mixed berries, real lemonade and soda for Little Edison. He loves it to bits! I also ordered the Raspberry Tremble ($6.80) on the menu; it has a refreshing, tangy and spritely sweet taste. It’s really, really good!

raspberry

Finally, we wrapped up our dinner with a 3-some ($11.80) dessert – a yummy combination of chocolate chip cookie dough ice-cream and strawberry cheesecake ice-cream, cookie crumbs and graham crackers. Little Edison just went wild with these layers of ice-cream!

3-some

Edison enjoying the ice-cream

It’s not often that a restaurant can put everything together – an innovative menu, a charming atmosphere, excellent service, reasonably-priced (most main courses are below $20) and delicious food, and in a family-friendly setting. nydc has managed to do all that, and it really deserves a big tick and worth a visit!
