E-Interview Questions for Singapore Blog Awards 2012

This post is written in response to the e-interview questions required for all Singapore Blog Awards 2012 finalists. We can also submit a video interview, but I think I’m too camera-shy for that. So, I opt for the conventional word-format and post it on my blog instead.

 …..

1. How do you feel about being one of finalists in Singapore Blog Awards 2012?

I’m very honoured and flattered to be selected as a finalist for this prestigious award. I’m thankful to my readers for their tremendous support and the professional judges for selecting my blog.

2. When did you start blogging and what drew you to it? Where do you get inspiration for your blog content?

I started blogging since 2007 with the intention of capturing my son’s precious childhood memories on my blog, but it only went public in January 2009. Children grow up so fast and we, as a parent, have 10+ years to remember them as our children. Thus, blogging remains my top choice in capturing these cherished moments.

In the early days, you wouldn’t want to read my blog because it was all about my son. When I noticed that my blog readership has started to increase, I made the efforts to improve my writing style and photography skills. I learnt some basic HTML and CSS knowledge to customize and improve the appearance of this blog.

Gradually, I re-positioned my blog’s theme to parenting and lifestyle of a working mother. Now, this blog is a place for me to share the joys and challenges of motherhood, parenting advice, my son’s childhood and everything else that catches my interest – food, shopping, fashion, skincare, holidays etc.

My blogging inspirations come from many directions. It may come from my own experience (be it good or bad) that is worth sharing. Sometimes, I’m inspired by someone else’s words or comments, read a good book, watch a great movie, get moved by an incredible event or just free flow to allow whatever in my thoughts to bubble up and out.

3. How do you feel about the other Finalists in your category this year? How do you think you will fare compared to them?

Daphne and Leonny are the two veteran bloggers in this category. I like June too; I think she has a talent in writing. In fact, all the other finalists are amazing and have their own unique strengths. I’m truly humbled to be selected as a finalist, along with these awesome bloggers.

Honestly, I don’t think I stand a high chance of winning. I don’t have large followers like other experienced bloggers. Nonetheless, I feel that being selected as a finalist for this prestigious award (for the first time) is already a tremendous achievement to me.

Whether I win or lose, personally I feel like I’ve already won. I’m grateful with the new experiences that I’ve gained from this Award, and it definitely motivates me to keep this blog going.

4. Give a reason why readers should visit your blog and vote for you?

I’ve been diligently maintaining this blog for a few years. This blog is a delightful mix of my genuine motherhood experiences, parenting advice and information, as well as light-hearted family moments.

I would like to urge you to browse my blog a little bit. If you realize my good-hearted intention of sharing parenting advice and information, whether you’ve been visiting my blog for years or have just joined me on this journey, I sincerely hope that you would give me a vote.

MANY THANKS to readers who have voted for me,
I appreciate your every single vote!
Thank you for your support, as always!

Finalist at the Singapore Blog Awards 2012 – Best Family Blog Category

I was completely over the moon yesterday when I received this piece of good news from OMY. Our Little Smarties has been selected as one of the Top 10 Best Family Blogs at the Singapore Blog Awards 2012.

Until today, I’m still a little stunned that this blog has successfully made it to the Top Ten this year. This is my second attempt. I submitted my blog for the contest last year (the first time), but I was not selected. I was disappointed, but I told myself not to give up.

This year, I tried my luck again but I didn’t pin much hope on it. Reason – there are more contestants than last year, and when I did a count on the potential finalists this year, I got more than twenty! There are a lot of newcomers, especially the Daddy Bloggers, and they are equally good as the Mommy Bloggers.

While I was reading the finalists for the Best Family Blog category yesterday, my heart skipped a beat when I saw the last name on the list – it was ME!

I just couldn’t believe it! I refreshed the page three times to make sure that I didn’t read it wrongly. Yah, I’m silly as that! When I received the official e-mail from OMY, I was so relieved and excited.

My blog, my little creative space, has finally gained some recognition. Even though I’m still unsure where this contest will lead me, but I’m feeling positive and excited about the journey ahead!

If you enjoy reading my blog, I deeply appreciate it if you can spare some time to vote for me for this prestigious award.

Public voting counts for 30% of the final score and 70% are based on judges’ decision. Voters stand a chance to win attractive prizes too! Closing date is 30 Jun 2012.

If you’re new to OMY, you need to make a simple registration before you can vote. It takes you less than two minutes to complete the registration form below, and you’ll be given a User Name and password to vote.

Voting is open worldwide. For non-Singaporean readers, you can key-in your IC Number under the NRIC/FIN No. field during the registration process. Click HERE to vote.

The important note here is that you can vote multiple times, but only once a day! So, please vote for me whenever you’re able to! (Thanks again!) You can also help spread the word by clicking on the social media buttons on the website (see picture below) to share the link with your friends.

Last but not least, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank every one of you for your support and readership. I really appreciate the interaction with all of you through this blog.

I gotta go rack my brain tonight to answer some e-interview questions from OMY, as part of this contest. =)
