We stay in the North East, and we seldom drive to the West side of Singapore. But now, we’ve a reason to drive to the West more often after we discovered KidsSTOP – a one-of-its-kind edutainment centre at Singapore Science Centre.
Opened in June 2014 (about a year ago), this unique kids science museum allows kids from 18 months to 8 years to explore science through play in a safe and guided environment. Housed within the Omni Theatre building, the centre is very spacious (over 3,000 sq meters), well-maintained and new. The admission charges are very affordable too – only S$10 per child and S$5 per adult on weekend for a session of 4 hours. Obviously, their rates are cheaper than any other indoor playground or play centres in Singapore.

1. Imagine Zone uses innovative role play concept for kids to practice their creative and communication skills at specially-designed places such as supermarket, restaurant, aeroplane, dino pit, etc.
Edison enjoyed the Dino Pit the most. It’s a detailed replica of an excavation site where he can experience being an archaeologist, digging up dinosaur bones from the earth.

2. Experience Zone encourages kids to appreciate nature, arts and culture through interactions with live animals, stop-motion animation, typhoon simulator, etc.

3. Discover Zone introduces children to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) principles. The interactive displays on magnetism, light and sound help them discover hidden secrets about their surroundings.

4. Dream Zone features an amazing two-storey climbing structure surrounded by various climbing elements such as leaves, flying fish, giant gears and many other interactive exhibits.
Unlike other indoor playground / play centres that charge per admission or per hour, KidsSTOP operates slightly differently. They have two sessions daily, from 9:30am to 1:30pm (first session) and 2pm to 6pm (second session). The admission is charged per session. That is to say, you can enjoy a maximum of 4 hours playtime if you enter at the start of each session. Click HERE for operating hours and HERE for admission charges.
Toilets, diaper-changing facility and nursing room (complete with cold/hot water) are available inside KidsSTOP. There are also plenty of sitting areas for the parents to sit and relax. Socks are compulsory for certain parts of the centre – but not all. My advice is to bring along your socks so that you – or rather your kids – won’t miss any exciting parts of the centre.
Apart from being an edutainment centre, KidsSTOP also offers various school programs, LEGO workshops and holiday programs. They are also opened for events, birthday parties and school excursions.
We spent about 2.5 hours there and Edison had so much fun. We’ll definitely be back again. If you haven’t been to KidsSTOP, I’d recommend that you bring your kids there at least once. It’s not just plain fun, but it’s educational and engaging too.
