Monthly Skincare Favourites – April 2015

B1

I plan to start writing my monthly skincare favourites to showcase hot new products – even if they’re just new for me – I want to share these good stuffs with you. There will be an in-depth review of some products that I’d recommend you to try, as well as those that you can give them a miss. Hopefully, this will help you in finding new skincare products to add to your collection.

So, let’s get started with this review now. I’ve included the links to the products where you can find more information, product pricing, and where you can buy them.

1. KOSE INFINITY Clear Force

I’ve been using Beaute de Kose Ultimation Clear Softener Softening Serum for a long time. It’s a wipe-off, skin-softening serum with self-peel effect that is an excellent solution to my clogged pores. Unfortunately, this product has been discontinued.

The replacement product is INFINITY Clear Force. As an introduction, KOSE INFINITY is a luxurious, high-end skincare line that tackles aging symptoms and delivers their promise of youthful skin – right after your first application! It’s recommended for women in their thirties and beyond.

Clear Force is a gel emulsion with strong moisturizing and softening effects to remove dead cells, making skin soft and translucent. Its main duty is to clear dullness and roughness.

I use it after cleansing my face in the morning and at night. It comes with a dispensing pump, making it very easy to use. I dispense 2 pumps on the cotton pad and wipe all over my face in an outward motion. The texture of this emulsion is too thick for my liking so I took a while to get used to it.

Did it moisturize and soften my skin? YES – but unlike the earlier version of Ultimation Clear Softener Softening Serum, it didn’t address my concern of clogged pores. Will I buy it again? Probably no, but I might look into other INFINITY series skincare products because I find that they are suitable for my age and skin type.

2. SK-II Cellumination Mask-In Lotion

Truth be told, I’ve a love-hate relationship with SK-II. I love it because it’s really good and delivers fast results. I hate it because its price-tag often hurts my wallet!

Housed in a gorgeous pearlescent glass bottle, this Cellumination Mask-In Lotion is a slightly translucent and milky white runny gel-like liquid that has a very subtle rose scent. It’s very lightweight and absorbs beautifully into the skin, providing instant hydration. My skin feels soft and looks a little more luminous after the application.

I didn’t use any cotton pad to apply it. I put a few drops into my palm and dab gently on my face twice a day. This lotion gradually takes away dullness and dryness from my skin – visible improvement was seen after using it for a month.

Priced at about $100 for 100ml, it’s a cheaper alternative to the pricey Cellumination Aura Essence ($299 for 50ml) which I’ve used for several months. I’m hopeful that it will reveal the skin’s natural luminosity with continual usage. Yes, I’m certainly keeping it in my skincare regime.

3. LANEIGE Time Freeze Intensive Cream

LANEIGE remains my all-time favourite Korean skincare brand even after trying out several other brands like Innisfree, The Face Shop and Etude House. Their newly launched Time Freeze Intensive Cream is truly a breakthrough in age defying products.

According to its website, LANEIGE says that a jar of Time Freeze Intensive Cream will “turn back the clock of your skin by 800 days” with its World’s 1st Technology Dynamic Collagen_EX. Wow! I simply couldn’t wait to try it.

This anti-aging cream promises to rejuvenate our skin’s collagen to reveal a young, refreshingly firm complexion. The result is a tighter skin and more defined facial outline as fast as 6 weeks.

I love how absolutely awesome this cream feels like when it’s slathered on my skin. It’s rich and creamy at first when I scoop it out from the tub. When I apply it on my skin, it turns into a gel with the most gorgeous slide and smells amazingly good too. The next morning after I wash my face, my skin feels moisturized and tender. Not very visible on the firming part yet, but I’ll continue to use it to see the effects.

At this point, I’m totally in love with it! Will I buy and use it again? A resounding YES, please!

4. MT Metatron MT Protect UV Base Cream (Shade: Ochre)

MT Metatron Cosmetics is a high-end skincare brand from Japan, and their products are exclusively sold through Beauty Aesthetic Salons and Clinics. Hence, the prices are slightly higher than average. I got to know this brand from Halley Medical Aesthetics.

With ratings of SPF26 and PA++, this BB cream delivers solid protection against UV and acts to support healthy, moist, and smooth skin. A generous supply of lipid-soluble Vitamin C also defends the skin against oxidation stress from UV.

Prior to this, I was using Estee Lauder Cyber White Extra Intensive BB Cream – the coverage is too sheer for my liking. Occasionally, I had to apply concealer to cover up any nasty spots.

MT Protect UV Base Cream, on the other hand, gives a medium coverage that I can completely skip the concealer. The biggest draw is its silky-smooth texture that blends flawlessly and blurs away pores. I finish off with some loose translucent powder.

This is by far the BEST BB cream that I’ve used to-date. It blends effortlessly to give my skin a healthy glow, and the Ochre shade matches perfectly with my skin tone. It’s very long-lasting too – at the end of my 9-hour work day, the coverage and oil control are still good.

5. Kao MegRhythm Steam Eye Mask

B4

If you’re ever in need of a soothing eye mask to relieve your tired eyes, this is it – Kao MegRhythm Steam Eye Mask!

In fact, I’ve been using this steam eye mask even before it was sold in Singapore (I purchased them online!) This eye comfort innovation from Japan comes with a patented self-warming heat cell. Once it is air-activated, it will warm gradually to a comfortable 40? in about 1 to 2 minutes. Steam produced from the heat moistens and soothes tired eyes instantly.

The well-designed eye mask wraps our eyes gently, while the ultra-thin material conforms to our eye contours. Once the package is opened, the eye mask will begin to warm up automatically. Quickly put it on to enjoy the steam bath, and the heat will last for approximately 10 minutes.

I usually fell asleep within minutes after putting on the eye mask – leaving it still wrapped around my eyes until I wake up in the middle of the night. There are four types of masks to choose from – unscented, lavender-sage, chamomile-ginger, and fresh rose. I love the lavender-sage mask because of its extra relaxing effect.

MegRhythm Steam Eye Mask is retailing at S$6.50 (for a box of 5 pieces) exclusively at Watsons and Guardian stores. At an average cost of $1.30 per piece, I find that it’s a bit too pricey to be used daily. So, I only use it on those late nights or whenever my mind gets a little restless. I love how it refreshes my eyes and eases the tired look on me the next morning. This eye mask doesn’t work on dark eye circles though.

I stocked up so much on this steam eye mask during my last trip to Japan in 2014. The price is so much cheaper there. If you happen to go to Japan, please remember to stock up these amazing steam eye masks. One more thing, I just found out that you can request for a free sample HERE.

  • Price: S$6.50 for a box of 5 pieces

Last but not least, I hope you find my review honest and well-balanced. If you’re like me who is constantly trying out different skincare brands and products, please share with me your favourite beauty products that are worth checking out.

Beauty Obsessions – June 2014

Hi! I’m back after almost one month break – feeling totally refreshed! Still working hard to regain my blogging mojo.

It’s been a while since I last wrote about beauty products that I like. Lately, I’ve found some products that I really like, so I thought, why not I start from them.

So, here are my latest beauty obsessions:

B2

1. NeoStrata SKIN ACTIVE Line Lift

This may be the answer to my wrinkles woes! The new SKIN ACTIVE Line Lift from NeoStrata is a two-step treatment specifically targets deep lines and folds through the stimulation of skin’s own natural collagen and hyaluronic acid.

With the help of patented ingredients such as Aminofil™, NeoGlucosamine® and NeoCitrate™, Line Lift duo can plump up the skin, improving the appearance of lines and wrinkles that were resulted from repetitive facial expressions and UV damage.

This is seriously better than needles, and convenient if you’re too busy to see an aesthetic doctor. It’s useful for areas such as forehead lines, frown lines, laugh lines, crow’s feet and undereye lines.

B1

On Step 1, I apply the Aminofil™ Activator on my areas of concern – mainly laugh lines and undereye lines. It has a precision roller ball that makes the application so easy and direct onto deep expression lines. I gently massage it with my finger tip until it’s fully absorbed.

The texture of this activator is quite thick, so initially, I was a bit put off by its stickiness. Then, I told myself to be patient and gentle tap the solution until it’s fully absorbed onto my skin. When it’s fully absorbed, it doesn’t feel sticky anymore.

On Step 2, I apply the Finishing Complex over Step 1 and gently massage it until it’s fully absorbed. The texture of the Finishing Complex is quite thick and heavy, so it leaves my skin a bit oily after the application.

I apply it after all my serums and before my moisturizer.

This product is recommended to be used twice a day, but I only use it once at night. Reason is – I find it a bit uncomfortable with the stickiness and oiliness on my face during the day (although it’s really not that bad). I confess that I have a super low tolerance towards stickiness and oiliness.

Nonetheless, this product really delivers fast results! I noticed the first visible improvements on the fine lines around my eyes after using it for about a month.

I would recommend this product to any anti-aging obsessed women, who are still in search for the answer to their wrinkles woes. This product can only be purchased from clinics.

2. SK-II Cellumination Aura Essence

I purchased this product from the duty-free shop (airport) during my last travel, and the price is about $230 for 50ml. It’s gentle on the skin but tough on the pocket! I mean, it’s really quite expensive to be used on long term.

I’m totally in love with this essence the first time I use it. The white serum is very light and easily absorbed. Its dropper design provides the ease of use and avoids wastage. I use two pumps each time.

The essence has a very sweet smell that easily lifts up my mood in the morning. I use it twice daily, in the morning and at night, before applying the moisturizer. I’m almost finishing my first bottle, and I feel that my skin tone is brighter and more even now.

Although I haven’t feel that aura-like glow yet (as in the advertisement), I’m quite confident that this product will work. So I will continue to use it.

3. Rejuvenating Serum from PCA Skin

I love any product that says rejuvenating! Yes, make me look young again, please…

I was first introduced to PCA Skin by The Face Aesthetic Clinic, and since then, I’ve been a big fan of their products. They are really good.

This ultimate age-defying serum uses epidermal growth factor (EGF) technology to stimulate cell proliferation and skin renewal. A blend of botanicals and potent antioxidants prevent cellular water loss, helping to keep skin firm, smooth and protected from damaging free radicals.

This serum goes on smoothly, and has a nice light feel and smell. My skin feels firmer after using it for about 3 weeks. Hands down the best serum I’ve ever tried to keep my skin looking smooth and fresh. I’ll definitely continue to use it.

The price is about $140 for a small bottle of 29.5ml (roughly two months’ usage), but I’ve found a cheaper source through eBay where I’m restocking my serum now.

4. Weightless Protection Broad Spectrum SPF 45 from PCA Skin

Perhaps my biggest mistake is skipping sunscreen during my younger days, and that’s why all the brown spots were popping out as revenge since I hit my thirties.

As advised by Dr. Zhang from The Face Aesthetic Clinic, I started applying this sunscreen daily – another awesome product from PCA Skin.

This broad spectrum sunscreen provides UVA/UVB protection with the technology of ultra-sheer zinc oxide and a blend of additional sunscreen ingredients. Its unique quick-absorbing and light finish makes it ideal for people with oily or breakout-prone skin, and those who dislike the feel of traditional sunscreen products.

Honestly I’ve never liked sunscreen because they tend to make my face super oily or left a scary white tint. Ever since I’ve tried Weightless Protection Broad Spectrum SPF 45, I was totally amazed at how LIGHT and SILKY it feels after the application. It has, to my satisfaction, goes nicely under my powder foundation too.

Weightless is certainly no exaggeration here!

5. Age-Revival Stem Cell Eye+ from Skin Inc

This is possibly the most expensive eye cream that I’ve ever purchased. It is priced at $190 for as little as 15ml.

A luxuriant, yet light weight eye cream with 20 active ingredients that incorporates stem cell technology and plant extracts with anti-ageing, healing and calming properties. This eye cream aims to resolve five main eye care concerns – lines, dryness, puffiness, sagging skin and dark circles.

I have very bad dark eye circles that I almost can’t leave home without a concealer. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen any major improvements in my dark eye circles yet (after using for almost one month). I still have half a jar left and will continue to use it. Hopefully, it will work for me.

I like this eye cream because it’s very lightweight and absorbs easily with just a few soft strokes.

That’s my current beauty obsession. If you have any fantastic product to recommend, please share with me too! I love to hear from you.

What Have Been Working for My Face Lately?

It’s been a while since I last wrote a blog post about new skincare products. So, if you’re wondering what have been working for my face lately, this post tells you all. I’ve four fantastic products to share with you today.

Before I start, let me ask you a question. What is your major skincare concern and what products are you in search for now? As for me, anything that says “take five years off your face!” will definitely win my attention.

That is to say, my major skincare concern is firming, anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, anti-sagging, or whatever we call it. Something that will slow down my aging process – that’s exactly what I need now. Please excuse me if I sound like a desperate middle-age mom, looking for anti-aging solutions. But in fact, I am!

1. VICHY Normaderm Unclogging Exfoliating Gel

I rarely buy skincare products from Guardian. So, I really stumbled onto this product by chance when I was looking for something else in the pharmacy. The green packaging caught my attention, and I took a while to read through its description and function before I finally bought it.

This unclogging exfoliating gel contains Salicylic Acid and smoothing micro-particles to unblock and purifies the pores. I use it twice a week, and it cleans wonderfully but not too abrasive. I love the refreshing clean-feeling and smoothness on my face every time I use it.

It’s quite cheap anyway, around $30, and I think it works really well to give my face a good exfoliation.

2. Laneige Firming Sleeping Pack

We all know that Laneige Sleeping Pack is a famous product, and it’s highly-rated in beauty magazines too. I’ve always wanted to try it. Few weeks ago, I saw the latest version that comes with firming effect and I was drawn into it immediately.

The sleeping pack comes with a spatula, so we can easily scoop up the right amount from the bottle. It has a nice soothing smell that gives me a deep relaxation feeling when I massage it onto my face. I applied the first layer onto my entire face, and a thin second layer on areas that need extra firming.

The product is absorbed nicely into my skin, without leaving a sticky feeling. I love the feeling after I wash my face the next morning. My face is instantly hydrated, smoother and perkier. I’m using it twice a week now, and will continue to use it.

I bought it from Sunnanz at S$43.90 (50ml).

3. SK-II Stempower (*Must try!)

This anti-aging moisturizer was launched in June this year, and I must say that it’s one of the best products I’ve ever used to date! This product targets at signs of aging such as loss of skin firmness, wrinkles, sagging, loss of radiance, larger pores, loss of hydration and a sallow complexion.

It’s light and absorbed quickly into my skin. I use it as my night-care moisturizer. I suppose it can be used as a day moisturizer too, but I don’t like to pile-up too many products on my face during the day – so, I only use it once at night.

My pores are less visible and I feel a new level of firmness on my skin after just one week. I absolutely love this product, and will continue to use it. I highly recommend it too.

The retail price is S$149.00 (50g) / S$219.00 (80g). I bought mine from Sunnanz, it’s 25% cheaper.

4. Lancôme Génifique Yeux Light-Pearl™ Eye-Illuminating Youth Activator

I confess that I’m very lazy with eye care products. I rarely use eye cream or serum until recently when I observed that my “panda eyes” are getting from bad to worst. When I saw the Lancôme Génifique Yeux Light-Pearl™ advertisement on the newspaper, I headed straight to the shopping mall to get one.

I like the stainless steel pearl-drop tip applicator as it provides a cooling sensation and massage effect when I apply it on my eyes. I can easily dispense the right amount using this applicator that turns 360 degree.

This serum is exceptionally light and absorbs easily into the skin. Miracles didn’t happen the first week though. However, after two weeks, I noticed that my dark circles are slightly lightened and the appearance of fine lines is greatly reduced too.

I’m using it twice a day now, and I shall continue to use it. I’m confident that my dark circles can be treated with this product and I’m putting all my efforts to use it – day and night.

The retail price of this product is S$110.00 (20ml).

That’s all I have for November. Enjoy!
