Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore: An Amazing Staycation You Won’t Resist

Last weekend, we checked-in to Hotel Jen Tanglin for a staycation. It is located within the quieter end of Orchard, along Cuscaden Road (very near Botanic Gardens). Formerly known as Traders Hotel, it has undergone an extensive $SGD45 million makeover in 2015, and now reflects a modern functional design concept to meet the needs of today’s modern travellers.

When the first Hotel Jen in the world opened in Singapore Orchardgateway in 2014, I was SO impressed by the quality of its rooms as well as its affordable prices. If you are looking for a budget-friendly hotel along Orchard Road that is extremely convenient with a beautiful swimming pool, Hotel Jen Orchardgateway is definitely a great choice. Check out my previous review of Hotel Jen Orchardgateway’s Club Deluxe Room.

Hotel Jen is a new brand of fresh, friendly and fuss-free mid-range hotels by Shangri-La International Hotel Management Ltd. Some of you may be aware that there are two Hotel Jens in Singapore. Now, let’s check-out the second Hotel Jen – that’s Hotel Jen Tanglin. This 4-star hotel offers amazing staycation packages starting from just S$176++ per night! Find out more. 😀

Hotel Jen Tanglin

We stayed in a Superior Room that is cosy and chic, complete with everything we need for a relaxing stay. After the extensive transformation, the room looks like brand new (nothing like the previous room at all). Totally amazing! 😆

Featuring a warm, playful and earthly interior, the Superior Room is 25 sqm in size and it comes with a super comfortable king-size (or twin) bed, a smart en-suite bathroom (no bathtub though), a mini fridge, as well as panoramic view of the surroundings.

I particularly like the tawny-leather headboards with brass lamps, and textured accent wallpaper with motifs such as fish or bicycles. At the opposite end, there’s a white faux-brick feature wall with a sleek TV mounted on it.

Staycation at YOTEL Singapore, Asia’s First YOTEL

One of life’s simple pleasures is going for a staycation. We’re truly blessed with SO many irresistible options for staycation in Singapore. This year alone, there are about 10 new hotel openings. Out of these 10, YOTEL  Singapore is the one I’m most keen to check out.

First of all, what exactly is YOTEL? For those of us who do not live in New York, London or Amsterdam, we probably have not heard much about the brand. YOTEL is a hotel chain that largely operates in airports, including London Gatwick, London Heathrow, and Paris Charles De Gaulle.

Additionally, YOTEL concept is based on technological innovation. By integrating the elements of luxury hotels into smartly designed spaces, YOTEL aims to provide a seamless and intuitive guest experience by giving guests everything they need and nothing they don’t.

YOTEL Singapore

YOTEL Singapore, the first YOTEL in Asia, opened its doors to guests on 1 Oct 2017. With a wide variety of rooms (known as cabins) from Premium Queen to VIP View Suite, there is something to suit every budget. There are 610 cabins across 30 floors that are equipped with signature YOTEL features such as adjustable SmartBedTM with super comfortable Serta Gel mattresses, Technowall with mood lighting and HD Smart TVs.

There are 7 cabin types in YOTEL Singapore:

  • Premium Queen (13sqm)
  • Premium Queen View (13sqm)
  • Premium Queen with 1 Bunk (13sqm)
  • Premium Queen View with 1 Bunk (13sqm)
  • Premium Queen View Deck (13sqm + 5sqm balcony)
  • First King Deck Cabin (26sqm + 9sqm balcony)
  • VIP View Suite (52sqm + 20sqm balcony)

The word “affordable luxury” often excites us (don’t tell me you’re not LOL). Combined with a prime location in Orchard Road, this property sounds like a dream come true to many. Now, I can’t wait to experience a refreshingly different staycation in YOTEL!  🙂

YOTEL SingaporeHotel Lobby

YOTEL Singapore is located behind Shaw House and a few minutes’ walk from Orchard MRT. As I walked in, the futuristic vibes in the lobby instantly grabbed my attention. To my left, there is a row of airport-style touch-screen check-in machines. And to my right, there are two robots. The self check-in process was totally fuss-free and within minutes, I was on my way up to my cabin on the 23rd floor. There are also reception counters if you prefer to check-in through the guest service officers.

Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy Business Suite Staycation

Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy is an Accor hotel strategically located in the historic East Coast region and within walking distance to East Coast Park, two major shopping centres, and many local eateries. It’s also near the airport, thus making it an ideal choice for business and leisure travellers.

Last weekend, we went for a staycation at Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy to celebrate my 40th birthday. You may not believe it, but this was the first time I celebrated my birthday with a staycation. I figured turning 40 is a major milestone that deserves to be celebrated in a memorable way.

As we drove into the hotel carpark, we couldn’t help but thinking that the hotel’s façade and surrounding look rather unattractive, especially with the construction of the Thomson-East Coast Line in front of it. Nonetheless, the Business Suite that we were hosted in is a complete opposite. So, don’t judge a book by its cover.

This property has been around for a while but it was refurbished a few years back. It boasts some of the largest rooms within its class, even the entry level rooms are already at 32sqm in size. Our Business Suite, the largest room category in the hotel, measures a whopping 54sqm!

The moment the door sprang open, our eyes widened with amazement. The suite is unbelievably spacious! I loved the minimalist Zen furniture of dark wood and grey cushions. The thoughtfully-designed layout also allows plenty of open spaces in the room, thus ideal for families with kids.

When you enter the Business Suite, you’ll see a large work desk with a minibar next to it. It comes with a Handy smartphone with unlimited International calls to 10 countries and mobile data.

At the opposite end of the table is the King Size bed and 32-inch flat screen cable TV. Next to it is the sofa bed and two arm chairs. The hotel has also prepared an extra bed for Edison. As you can see, this suite can accommodates a family of 2 adults and 3 kids comfortably.

Park Hotel Farrer Park Staycation Review: Premier Loft Room

The newly-built Park Hotel Farrer Park (opened in May 2017) is located right on top of Farrer Park MRT Station. It’s SO convenient, if I were a tourist, I’ll definitely choose this hotel. It’s also an ideal staycation choice for its historical and ethnic charm. Guests can experience the colourful sights and sounds of Little India just around the hotel.

We were invited for a night at Park Hotel Farrer Park’s Premier Loft Room, and it was such a delight to stay in a spanking new hotel. The 20-storey hotel with sleek glass exteriors is the home to a mix of 300 contemporary guest rooms, Sky Loft and Premier Loft rooms. It also features two dining outlets, a swimming pool and gymnasium ideal for business travel or family holidays.

We were so thrilled to stay in a Premier Loft Room – the biggest room in this hotel! I told Edison that our room will be extraordinary (not the usual hotel room that we always stay), and he marched towards the room with excitement. When the door was opened, I saw a burst of delight on his face. And then, he was all “Wow! Wow! Wow!”

“Have fun climbing those stairs, boy!” I replied, and within seconds, he disappeared from my sight. You sure know where he has gone to lol.

I super loved this duplex storey room that embraces refined interior such as wood-finished wardrobe, modern marble bathroom, and elegant wall finishing. The room comes with a sofa bed that allows for quality family time. Everything is made to perfection!

I also like the full glass window that offers a panoramic view of the vibrant district and plenty of natural lights. There’s a 43″ Full HD LED TV near the sofa bed and another TV in front of the queen-sized bed on the upper level. No more fighting over the TV channels lol!
